ANSWER: The City of Barberton has two types of positions:

      1) Appointed positions: which are positions that are appointed by elected officials and

          commissions; and
      2) Civil Service positions that are selected through Civil Service testing.

If you are interested in an appointed position, please contact the appropriate appointing authority. If you are interested in a Civil Service position, contact the Civil Service Commission Office at (330) 848-6650.

Q. When is the next Civil Service Exam going to be given?

ANSWER: We offer different exams for different positions. To find out if applications are currently being accepted, call the Civil Service Commission Office at (330) 848-6650.

Q. How does the Civil Service Exam process work?

ANSWER: A notice is posted for an available position; applications are accepted for a period not less than 30 days; and one exam is given for all applicants. After the test results are complete, a list will be developed in order by score, certified by the Civil Service Commission and posted outside the Civil Service Office, located at 576 W Park Ave, Room 106. Letters will be sent notifying applicants of test scores and placement on the list. This process usually takes 2-3 weeks after the test has been given. The list will be valid for 2 years from the date that it was certified.
