Q. Do I have to be at home to have my meter read?
ANSWER: No. All homes are equipped with a unit (MIU) that captures the readings of the meter and transports them automatically to the Utilities database. This enables daily readings of the meter. This system makes sure that monthly bills are accurate based on actual readings. The Utilities Customer Service Office will be glad to furnish a daily reading report for you, if you should need that information.
Q. Moving? How do I
finalize my billing?
ANSWER: Please call the Utilities Customer
Service Office at (330) 753-0328 to schedule your final reading.
The following information must be supplied:
Service address
Date of final reading
Forwarding address
Q. I am buying a home
that has The City of Barberton utilities and trash. What do I need
to do?
ANSWER: A signature card is required to be signed by the owner of
the property. A visit to the Utilities Customer Service Office,
located in the Barberton City Municipal Building, 576 W Park Ave
(first floor), will take care of authorizing the billing and explaining
city services. If coming into the office is not possible, the information
may be faxed or mailed. Always call the Utilities Customer Service
Office to make sure a final reading has been done. The City offers
evening service for special customer requests or for maintenance
of meters Monday thru Friday. All requests for service can be scheduled
through the Utilities Customer Service Office.
Q. How can payments be made on an account?

Q. Do I have to be billed for the curbside pick-up if a house is vacant?
ANSWER: If the water service is on at the service address
and available for use, even if the house is vacant, the trash service
will be available and will be billed at $11.68 per month. The $11.68
service fee for trash allows the city to offer a very reasonable
rate for trash service since the cost is shared evenly with every
household in Barberton.
Q. Why is the sewer charge higher than the water charge and how is the sewer charge determined?
ANSWER: The sewer portion of the utility bill is based on the monthly
water usage. It is more expensive to treat the water leaving the
home than coming in. The sewer rates are set slightly higher than
the water rates to accommodate that expense. Rate charts are available
at the Utilities Customer Service Office or click
here for water & sewer rates.
Q. When are bills due?
ANSWER: Bills are due the 10th of the month. Late fees
are 10% of the current bill. Payment arrangements can be made at
the Utilities Customer Service Office, Barberton City Municipal
Building, 576 W Park Ave, located across from Lake Anna. Phone:
(330) 753-0328 (Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.)
Q. Why am I using more water?
ANSWER: Leaking toilets, change in family size, humidifier on a furnace, summer usage, leaking hose behind a washer, or any change in normal usage. Please call the Utilities Customer Service Office and request help in determining the problem.
Q. Why is my bill estimated?
ANSWER: Monthly bills are based on actual readings. If there is question about the figures that appear on the bill, please call the Utilities Customer Service Office.
Q. Is there a minimum charge for water and sewer per month?
ANSWER: If the water is on at the curb, there is a minimum charge
of $16.73 for water and sewer plus $11.68 for trash and recycle.
Up to 2.5 thousand gallons of water may be used for the minimum
charge.
Q. If I am new to the area, do I have to pay a deposit to have water service?
Q. If I'm renting, how do I get the water bill put into my name?
ANSWER: The landlord has to call the office to make the arrangements.
However, all bills are sent to the deedholder who is ultimately
responsible for the water and sewer bill.
