Fire Department

The Barberton Fire Department principal mission is to protect citizen’s lives and property from the effects of fire, medical emergencies, rescue emergencies, accidental release of hazardous materials, and disasters either natural or man made. The department accomplishes this mission by providing the following:

  • Progressive public education program
  • Intense department training
  • Aggressive code enforcement
  • Fire and other emergency pre-planning
  • Prompt incident investigation

The Fire Chief is the head of the Fire Department. According to the City Charter, the Fire Department administratively falls within the Department of Public Safety. As such, the Fire Chief is appointed by and reports to the Director of Public Safety. With approximately 46 full-time employees and an operating budget of approximately $4.8 million, the Fire Department is the second largest department within the City. The Fire Department’s primary responsibilities include fire suppression, prevention, investigation, education, code enforcement, rescue, hazardous materials mitigation and emergency medical services for the citizens and visitors of the City of Barberton.
