The City of Barberton Announces New Fixed Rate for Natural Gas Aggregation Program

City of Barberton, Ohio (September 30, 2025)

Barberton City officials would like to announce that they have established a new 12-month fixed-rate for members of the natural gas aggregation program. The new program term will be supplied by IGS Energy and run through the November 2026 bill cycle. A rate of $4.84 per Mcf has been set for gas consumed for the December 2025 through November 2026 bill cycles. Residents and small commercial customers can expect a letter from IGS Energy to arrive on or about October 13th. The letter will explain the rate, terms, and conditions of the offer.

We are pleased to make this rate available for our residents and small businesses. The fixed rate will give them price protection and budget stability for the next term. As before, our program has no early termination fee.

Residents and businesses should carefully read their letter from IGS Energy. Residents who are currently participating in the program will receive an “opt-out” letter, and do not need to take any action to remain in the program. Residents who have not chosen a supplier and receive their gas supply from Enbridge Gas Ohio will also receive an “opt-out” letter. If they wish to be added to the program, they should simply do nothing, and they will automatically receive the new rate. Any accounts that have already shopped for an alternate supply outside the aggregation will not receive an opt-out letter and would need to contact IGS Energy if they wish to join the City’s program.

We would like to remind you that the aggregation program is simply another option for you to consider, and it is important that you make yourself aware of the other options available to you, specifically:

  • The Public Utility Commission of Ohio provides a list of other publicly available offers on their website, www.energychoice.ohio.gov. Anyone considering those supply offers should be aware of any early termination penalties, fixed monthly charges, or automatic renewal provisions that can quickly offset any perceived savings. Our program includes none of the above.
  • The utility’s supply rate for the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) is a variable rate option. It follows monthly market conditions and trends up and down throughout the year.

Again, we would like to remind people that the program is simply another option for our residents and small businesses to consider in their efforts to manage their energy costs.

The City is pleased to have made this program possible, but asks that you do not call the City offices. They are not equipped to handle a large volume of calls. Residents should contact IGS Energy toll-free at 1-877-353-0162 if they have any questions.

The City of Barberton Announces Fixed Rate for Electric Aggregation Program

City of Barberton, Ohio (March 14, 2025-2026)

Opt-out letters will be mailed to current and newly eligible accounts in the electric aggregation program on March 19th. Starting with the May 2025 meter reads, the aggregation program will offer a new fixed rate of 9.32 cents/kWh for 12 months until the May 2026 meter reads. Residents and small businesses should look for a mailer to arrive on or about March 19th, concerning the new electric aggregation program offer from Dynegy.

The mailer will explain the offer the City negotiated and the means to opt-out should a customer not want to participate in the program. Residents will have 21 days to contact, or return an opt-out card to, Dynegy if they decide not to participate.

For current participants wishing to continue, or newly eligible accounts wanting to begin, participating in the aggregation program, no action is needed in response to the letter you receive. Only those wishing not to participate in the program should respond to their opt-out letter.

We remind you that the aggregation program is simply another option for you to consider, and it is important that you make yourself aware of the other options available to you, specifically:

  • The Public Utility Commission of Ohio provides a list of other publicly available offers on their website, www.energychoice.ohio.gov. Anyone considering these supply offers should be aware of any early termination penalties, fixed monthly charges, or automatic renewal provisions that can quickly offset any perceived savings. Our program includes none of the above.
  • The utility’s default supply option, also known as your Price-to-Compare. This is a variable rate option which is adjusted periodically.

While the aggregation program has been able to protect participants from rising rates over the past several years, the rate for the new term will be rising to meet current market conditions. The aggregation will continue to provide a competitive price offer. However, it never guarantees to be the lowest available option at all times. Residents are reminded that the aggregation is simply one option for them to consider as they seek to manage their electric costs.

The City is pleased to have made this program possible but asks that you do not call the City offices. They are not equipped to handle a large volume of calls.

Any residents with questions about their letter or status in the aggregation program should contact Dynegy at 888-682-2170.
