Barberton's History
Founded by industrialist entrepreneur O.C. Barber In 1891, Barberton was located along railroad lines, the Tuscarawas River and the Ohio Canal. It grew into a robust manufacturing town so quickly that it earned the “Magic City” nickname that remains to this day. Our history is built upon a legacy of business, manufacturing, renowned architecture, revolutionary agricultural practices and community pride. That same spirit of hard work, community and entrepreneurial spirit thrives today.

Thank you to Minute Men Ohio Comp for your $1,000 donation to the City of Barberton. The donation was split into two checks, each $500, and presented to the Barberton Salvation Army and Barberton AFSCME 265 for gift baskets that the union gives out to families in need during the holidays!

Yesterday, we proudly celebrated the one-year anniversary of Crowned Crayons Academy with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony!
A heartfelt thank you to Main Street Barberton, South Summit Chamber of Commerce, Councilman Griffin, Councilman Poorman, and all the wonderful community members who joined us in support. Your presence made this milestone truly meaningful!

We are excited to partner with the City of Barberton and others on a brand new Community Sunflower and Pollinator Park at Harter Park! This exciting community space will provide educational and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The space will enhance local wildlife and support pollinators. With all the snow and cold weather, we look forward to summer days ahead at Harter Park.

Hey downtown building owners: applications are open!
Barberton Community Foundation is excited to announce we are accepting applications for the 2026 Barberton is Back - Downtown Building Rehabilitation Program. We hope to grant up to $125,000 to a new or existing downtown building owner who can match the funds dollar-for-dollar.
This program supports building improvements that strengthen downtown Barberton from façade restoration to safety upgrades and energy efficiency improvements.

Applications open: December 15, 2025
Deadline: February 1, 2026
Interested applicants must schedule a pre-application meeting with Main Street Barberton to review eligibility and project scope.
