Planning Director
The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for a Planning Director. This position is an exempt, unclassified position appointed by the Planning Commission.
Summary of Job Duties: The Planning Director reports to the Planning Commission and assumes responsibility for the planning, development, and direction of the various programs administered by the Planning Department; implements policies promulgated by the Commission, Mayor, and City Council.
The ideal candidate will have a collaborative work style, will have a demonstrated commitment to the betterment of the City and will possess passion and have a vision for the growth of the City. The Director will have strong communication and planning skills and must be able to create and maintain relationships with residents, business owners, non-profits, grant funders, school board/administration and City administration/council/board members.
Qualifications: The candidate shall have a bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field, as recognized by the American Planning Association (APA). The ideal candidate would have at least five years of related work experience, with progressive duties and responsibilities. An applicant possessing an American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certificate is highly desired.

Engineer
The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Engineer. This classified position reports directly to the Director of Public Service. This is a responsible technical and administrative position consisting of directing the activities of the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Service, the development and supervision of public works projects and supervision of all operations and activities of the City Engineer’s office.
The ideal candidate shall have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus considerable experience in the practice of civil engineering, including experience in municipal engineering. Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying as applied to the development, construction and maintenance of Engineering projects; the public work interrelationships of subdivisions, utilities and street systems, storm water; the principles and practices of public works administration.

Manager of Wastewater Treatment Plant
The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager. This classified position assists with the management of the Public Utilities Division of the Department of Public Service, including the supervision of personnel and ensuring the proper operation of City utilities; assumes responsibility for the operation of the City’s water and wastewater treatment programs; administration of the distribution and collection systems; and compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
A bachelor’s degree in science or engineering with emphasis on chemistry, bacteriology, environmental sciences, or other related discipline, plus five (5) years of experience in wastewater and/or water treatment plant operations, including two (2) years of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience is required. Must possess a State of Ohio Class IV Wastewater Operator’s License; a valid State of Ohio driver’s license, plus must be able to qualify for and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator
The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Industrial Pretreatment Coordinator. This classified position is responsible for conducting and implementing requirements of the City’s industrial pretreatment program in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations to control wastewater discharges of industrial users of the City sewerage system. Implementation and effectiveness of the city’s program subject to review and enforcement by the OEPA.
A bachelor’s degree in engineering, biology or chemistry, or any equivalent experience and training is required.
