SPECIAL MEETING: The Civil Service Commission will have a Special Meeting Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 9:00AM to approve and certify the Eligible List for Account Clerk, approve and certify the Eligible List for Community Development Administrator, and approve the Public Notice for Fire Marshal.

The regularly scheduled April 2, 2025 is CANCELED. The next meeting will be Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 576 W. Park Avenue in the Mayor’s Conference Room at 5:30PM.

Overview

The Charter of the City of Barberton, Ohio establishes a three member Civil Service Commission, which is appointed by the Mayor with confirmation by majority of City Council.

Responsibilities

The Civil Service Commission is responsible for:

Prescribing, amending and enforcing rules for positions within the Classified Service.

Classified Employees may transition within the Classified Service by one or more of the following methods:

• Appointment
• Promotion
• Removal
• Transfer
• Layoff
• Suspension
• Reduction
• Reinstatement
