Police Officer Civil Service Entrance Examination: 

December 15, 2025 – January 19, 2026

The City of Barberton is offering a Police Officer Examination through National Testing Network (NTN). To register with NTN and schedule a test, go to www.nationaltestingnetwork.com, and complete the following steps:

  1. Select ‘Find Jobs’
  2. Select Police Officer Jobs
  3. Sign up for Barberton Police Department

When you visit the www.nationaltestingnetwork.com website:

  • Complete the NTN registration process and schedule your test.
  • Review all information related to the Police Officer position, including minimum requirements, salary, and benefits.
  • Review detailed information about the testing process.
  • Review the Frequently Asked Questions and take an online practice test (if desired).

Upon completion of your scheduled exam, scores are automatically forwarded to the City of Barberton. Candidates who attain a passing score of 70% on the entry level exam and upload all required documents to the NTN website will be placed on City of Barberton’s eligibility list. After the eligibility list is certified by the Civil Service Commission, your final test score including extra credit will be mailed. Candidates that are being considered from Certified Eligible List will be invited to participate in further stages of the selection process.

National Testing Network is a service provided to conduct entry level testing in a standardized, professional environment. National Testing Network does not replace the City of Barberton’s responsibility and decision making in the testing process.  All candidate results are provided to the City of Barberton where the final decisions are made.

Building Commissioner

The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Building Commissioner.  This unclassified position reports directly to the Director of Public Service and serves at the pleasure of the Mayor.  The Building Commissioner manages the operations and personnel of the City’s Building Department to ensure compliance with state and local code; reviews construction plans in order to ensure compliance with applicable codes; performs field inspections in order to ensure compliance with building, property and zoning codes.

Compensation based on qualifications and experience: Salary $67,507.58 – $97,069.20

The ideal candidate will have ten (10) years experience in a certified Building Department as Chief Building Inspector or Building Official and possess a Class I State Building Official Certification and Class III State Building Inspector Certification. Candidate must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio Driver’s License, and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.

Engineer

The City of Barberton is now accepting resumes for the position of Engineer. This unclassified position reports directly to the Director of Public Service. This is a responsible technical and administrative position consisting of directing the activities of the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Service, the development and supervision of public works projects and supervision of all operations and activities of the City Engineer’s office.

The ideal candidate shall have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering plus considerable experience in the practice of civil engineering, including experience in municipal engineering. Knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering and surveying as applied to the development, construction and maintenance of Engineering projects; the public work interrelationships of subdivisions, utilities and street systems, storm water; the principles and practices of public works administration.

2025 Pay Range: $74,647.51 – $111,063.66
